MENTORS

Virgilio program offers individualized mentoring by leading physician scientists in order to guide the research experience of the students and provide scientific inputs.
The Program has a diverse faculty of physician-scientists and doctoral scientists engaged in clinical, translational and basic science research. The research community at our 3 partner Universities is highly interactive with multiple collaborative projects that span across specialties.
The mentor supports the mentee by:
1. Being available for meetings and discussions, building an accompanying and guiding relationship for the entire duration of the program;
2. Listen and give their time;
3. Help identify short and long-term career objectives;
4. Provide a framework to look into various laboratory options, in order to coordinate and plan the lab rotations;
5. Guide the research experience;
6. Help understand problems related to research ethics;
7. Share experiences, where relevant;
8. Be a signpost, if asked, to information and resources – including people/network.
Students are required to connect with their Mentor at least 3 times each year. Additional contact may be scheduled based on mutual discretion. Mentors provide mentee students ongoing guidance as they progress through their research training.

LEADERSHIP TEAM & MENTORS

Our leadership team, who envisioned the Virgilio Program exemplify physician scientist careers and are committed to developing the next generation.

FACULTY MENTORS

“We must invest significant time in mentoring the next generation of outstanding undergraduate medical students, giving them an insight into research alongside clinical medicine. We all have a responsibility in this area”
