Research experience at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London – Gaia Giulietti
Student research experience
Gaia Giulietti, Virgilio 4° cohort student, Humanitas
Yesterday my elective placement at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, the oldest and largest centre for ophthalmic treatment, teaching and research in Europe, came to an end.
First of all, I would like to thank my tutor Alia Hashmi for organizing my rotations in the different departments and for her full availability throughout my placement.
I’d also like to express my deepest gratitude to all the consultants I had the pleasure to shadow during such a life-changing placement.
Thanks to them I had the chance not only to witness outstanding eye care, but also to see them guarantee complete patient care.
In as little as 1 month, I have been exposed to and assisted with cutting-edged surgical approaches, innovative research programs, fascinating genetic screenings and complex pediatric cases that I would only have dreamt of as a 5th year medical student.
Can’t wait to see what lies ahead!
