From Our 1st UNIMI Cohort to pioneering space research: Francesco Luciano’s journey in human locomotion studies

We are proud to share that our 1° Cohort Student from UNIMI, Francesco Luciano has been offered a Postdoctoral research position at the Locomotion Physiomechanics lab, University of Milan.
Francesco’s research focuses on how people walk and run: combining respirometry, motion analysis, and ultrasound to study how muscles, tendons, and the cardiorespiratory system behave during movement.

His postdoc project is on how low gravity – such as that occurring on the Moon or Mars – affects human locomotion. This work is in collaboration with the European Space Agency, German Space Agency, University of Bath, and University of Cologne. The research aims to support planning the upcoming human missions on the Moon and, here on Earth, improve rehabilitation approaches for people with gait disorders.
