A brief overview
The “Virgilio Program” is a complementary training program offered to students enrolled in single-cycle Master’s degree courses in Medicine and Surgery, both in the Italian and the English track. It is offered on a selective basis to high-achieving third-year students who are interested in deepening their understanding of research methods and the link between basic sciences and clinical research.
The program is a joint educational initiative developed by the University of Milan, Humanitas University, and the University of Milano-Bicocca, with financial support from Cariplo Foundation and Vollaro Foundation.
The aim is to foster careers in biomedical research by offering a parallel academic path with intensive training in scientific investigation.
The program is taught in English. The training activity comprises a total of 60 ECTS credits, distributed across the fourth, fifth, and sixth years of the single-cycle degree courses. Of these, 18 credits are dedicated to theoretical classroom-based teaching, while 42 credits are awarded for laboratory internship experiences. The 60 credits of the “Virgilio Program” are additional to the 360 credits required for the Master’s Degrees and are formally recognized in the Diploma Supplement.
