Research experience at Harvard-Armenise Summer Fellowship – Matilde Pittarello

Student research experience

Matilde Pittarello, Virgilio 5° cohort student, Humanitas

“This summer I had the honor of being selected for the Armenise-Harvard Summer Fellowship. This program allowed me to spend two months in a Harvard-affiliated laboratory and given my interest in the field of neuro-oncology, I joined a laboratory of pediatric neuro-oncology at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, USA. My project focused on targeting epigenetic vulnerabilities in a high-grade glioma of childhood called H3k27M Diffuse midline glioma (DMG).
This experience was extraordinary in many senses: firstly the possibility of being mentored and learning how to conduct experiments with precision and method and how to discuss results and present them to other researchers.

Secondly, the opportunity to be exposed to and learn from a scientific community of extremely prepared, passionate, dedicated scientists and understand the importance of integrating ideas and projects to widen the perspective on a topic.
Lastly, the beautiful and precious chance of sharing the whole period with other nine students coming from different academic backgrounds and interests, but all fascinated and committed to asking fundamental questions through basic research and grow scientifically.”

Matilde Pittarello had won the Harvard-Armenise Summer Fellowship this year to do a research experience at Harvard Medical School and its affiliated hospitals: https://armeniseharvard.org/programs/summer-fellowship-program/
