D-MEM Seminar: Francesca Coscia on thyroid hormone regulation and structural biology

November 5, 2026 | 4:30 PM | Aula G14, Via Golgi, Milan
The D-MEM Seminar Series opens on November 5, 2026, with a lecture by Dr. Francesca Coscia, Group Leader at Human Technopole in Milan, entitled “Uncovering thyroid hormone regulation by integrative structural biology.”
The seminar will explore how integrative structural biology can advance our understanding of thyroid hormone formation and regulation, bringing together approaches ranging from atomic-level structural analysis to organoid models.
Francesca Coscia is a structural biologist internationally recognized for her expertise in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). Following her studies at the University of Naples, she continued her scientific training in Grenoble, London and Cambridge, making significant contributions to structural biology, including the determination of the structure of human thyroglobulin and new insights into the molecular mechanisms of thyroid hormone formation.
Since 2021, she has led a research group at Human Technopole, where her team investigates thyroid biology and related diseases through an integrative, multiscale approach. Her research is supported by an ERC Starting Grant, awarded in 2022, and has received several prestigious scientific distinctions.
The seminar is open to students, researchers and colleagues interested in structural biology, molecular mechanisms and biomedical research.
