Future of MD-PHD: it’s time to Define the Pathway

Virgilio Program - Excellence in Research Track is organizing Round Table Discussion on the topic: Problems & opportunities for the training of medical researchers in Italy.

The current state of the art

As we all understand, fostering and improving medical research education is crucial to biomedical research and clinical patient treatment.

Unfortunately, there is not enough emphasis on the acquisition of research skills throughout medical undergraduate and specialist training. Medical students with an interest in research are often identified too late, or presented with insufficient career opportunities.

Key Topics Discussion Points

In the backdrop of the same, this roundtable is an occasion to:

♦ bring together key stakeholders to discuss the current status of medical research education in Italy, with particular reference to the MD-PhD track,

♦ to identify good practices and the main barriers to change,

♦ and to provide recommendations for defining the structural features of an MD-PhD track in the near future.

A contamination of knowledge

We have the privilege to interact with our Italian collegues form various Universities in Italy as well as some foreign collegues from other European University to discuss and share  the state of the art of MD-PhD programs in EU and Italy, as a benchmark  for us to consider.

As academic faculty, we need to provide diverse and flexible options to students for pursuing both clinical and research experience in their medical career.

Round Table endeavors to summarise viable ideas and suggestions of the working group with regard to an MD-PhD track and propose preparatory recommendations to the Ministry.

18th Nov 2019 from 16.00 - 18.30 - Aula Magna dell'Università degli Studi di Milano, Via Festa del Perdono 7, Milan.
