TUTORS Experiences during Covid-19 outbreak – OLGA TARASIUK

Living through the COVID-19 pandemic, never experienced before or even remotely imagined has affected all of us in some ways or the other. It has had severe health, economic and social consequences. It has made us all question our own paradigms and the lifestyle changes we need to adopt in order to live responsibly.

In order to understand the impact from a personal point of view, we have asked to our Students and Tutors to share their experiences in order to listen and support each other as we all begin life post pandemic.

What were your main activities during lockdown?

As someone whose work is 100% lab based, the situation with COVID-19 pandemic has definitely had an impact on my work. With the University being shut down and only operating with very restricted access, a lot of laboratory research had to be ceased.

Nonetheless, I used my time in planning experiments and analyzing data.

How was your experience during this period of lockdown?

For the first two months, there were literally no activity. I worked from home, reading articles, searching for possible solutions to problems with experiments that had to be abruptly stopped. From May, the activity in the laboratory was started partially, and from June we are almost back to our normal routine.

I must confess I used my time productively during the lockdown. As a team we remained connected through online platform, having our regular virtual meetings and discussions.

Living through the pandemic and having attended lab/courses as part of Virgilio, would you like to share your FUTURE field of interest?

Pandemic did limit our laboratory work, but we are slowly coming out of it. At the moment I shall continue in my current filed of research

What do you feel to suggest to next Virgilio Program's cohort of students?

Use your time productively to read articles and gain knowledge in the field of your interest, even though you can’t follow your lab rotations.
